To Players, Coaches, and Fans:

Welcome to the 2020 Adidas John Turner Classic!

Pearland, Dawson, and Turner High Schools along with Pearland Junior High South and Berry Miller Junior High School, its administrators, staff, and students want to welcome you to our campuses for this year’s tournament. Pearland ISD is proud to host a field of 40 teams from across the State of Texas to compete for the championship of one of the nation’s best high school volleyball tournament. The tournament will take place on Thursday, August 13th – Saturday, August 15th of 2020.

This year the tournament will be raising funds for :
(As always a portion of our 2020
tournament proceeds will go to our designated charitable organizations for this event.)

Texas Children's Hospital: Texas Children's Hospital, located in Houston, Texas, is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to create a healthier future for children and women throughout our global community by leading in patient care, education and research. We are proud to be consistently ranked among the top children’s hospitals in the nation.

Pearland ISD Education Foundation: The Pearland ISD Education Foundation has been created to support the educational programs for both the students and staff of the Pearland Independent School District. The Foundation will provide funds for educational programs and activities that either have not been funded or have been under-funded by the normal operating budget. These funds will be used to facilitate student achievement and skill development, to recognize and encourage staff excellence and to expand community involvement from individuals, businesses and civic organizations.

Admissions
The cost of a single day ticket will be $12.00 for Adults; $8 for Senior Citizens and for Students. Children 12 and under are free
A tournament pass will be sold for $30.00 for Adults; $18 for Senior Citizens for Students (must show student id) on the first day only! No passes will be allowed from any district or coaching organization. Tournament programs will be available online.

Match Work Crew
Each team must supply a book, score, libero track and lines persons for each match that they play in during the tournament as noted in AES. Tournament officials will be provided for both up and down referee responsibilities. There will be officials used for semis, third place, and the championship match.

Concession Stands
Concession stands will be available at select campuses.

Sportsmanship for Players/Coaches/Fans
There will be no verbal or physical abuse of an official at any time during the tournament. Any person that is guilty of this will be denied access to the tournament for the remaining days of competition from the time the incident occurs and will be reported to the UIL.  Police will be on duty at the sites to escort unruly patrons off the site. Players/coaches must display good conduct to officials and opposing teams. It is the right of John Turner, Tournament Director, to remove any person(s) that show unjust behavior that is detrimental to the tournament or its workers.

Tiebreakers for Division Play
The following tie break rules will apply when a tie occurs at the end of pool play. 2-Way & 3-Way Ties – Head to Head Results; if still tied then we will go by game percentage; if still tied then we will go by point percentage to determine.

Warm-ups for each Court
Coaches, you have an allotted amount of time to warm up for your matches. The first match of the day you will be allowed 3 minutes ball handling, 4 minutes of hitting each, then 1 minute of serving together. After the initial first match of the day for your team, then you will immediately go into your 4 minutes of hitting each and then one minute of serving. There will be no exceptions to this rule. If your team is late, you will be given the amount of time that is left when you arrive. There will be a cart of balls on each half court for each team to warm up with during their designated time. I highly suggest that the team doing ball handling while the other team hits only uses a minimum amount of balls so the team hitting has a sufficient amount.

Opening Ceremonies
All teams are required to attend the coaches check-in at 8:00 a.m. and then the Opening Ceremonies at 9:00 a.m. at the main site at Pearland High School. The ceremonies will last approximately 50 minutes to an hour. All teams will then travel to their designated playing sites thereafter to start the first round of play at 11:00 a.m.

Tournament Results
We are excited to announce that we have partnered with AES systems (www.advancedeventsystems.com) to provide tournament results. Coaches will have access to a computer at most sites where they can view the details of their next match. Tournament fans will not have access to AES computers. We encourage everyone to keep up with their team on their smart phones by accessing our website at https://johnturnerclassic.com/divisions-brackets/ or by buying the AES application at https://www.advancedeventsystems.com/Default.aspx.
